Two-run bombs blast X's past Gary

X'S AND OH'S

If the Explorers are indeed to remain in contention for an American Association playoff berth, they must defeat the Central Division-leading Gary SouthShore RailCats. Saturday's game was the 13th of the season between the teams, with Gary holding a 7-5 edge. The squads will wrap up a three-game set tonight at 6:05 and the RailCats return to Lewis and Clark Park for a four-game series Aug. 8-11. After Monday's off day, the Explorers make their only trip to Kansas City for a three-game series Tuesday through Thursday....

Alain Quijano , the starting pitcher for the RailCats on Saturday, resides in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and served as pitching coach at Iowa Wesleyan University last season. Quijano, a lefthander, started the season at St. Paul, posting a 2-2 record. Saturday was his ninth start for Gary and he was the losing pitcher in a 5-3 setback to the Explorers on July 13 in Gary. Quijano (pronounced Key-ah-oh) is a graduate of Grand View University, where he served two seasons as an assistant coach....

The Explorers made a transaction on Saturday, re-signing infielder Mike Murphy . Murphy has played in 30 games this season, but hasn't seen action since June 24 because of an injury. In 30 games, Murphy batted .247 with one home run and nine RBIs....

Saturday was Boy Scouts Night at the ballpark. Scouts helped present the colors before the game and were in full uniform while lining the infield during pre-game ceremonies....

Nick Schumacher (7-4) will pitch the series finale for the X's while lefthander Carlos Rivas risks a 5-0 record for Gary.

SIOUX CITY - Whenever the Sioux City Explorers needed runs Saturday night, they dialed up a two-run homer.

Four of them in all.

The X's won their second game in as many nights over Gary SouthShore, the American Association Central Division leaders, 10-6 in front of 1,246 at Lewis and Clark Park.

Sioux City clubbed four two-run blasts in the first five innings and reached the .500 mark at 36-36. The Explorers also picked up another game on Gary, pulling within seven with over a month left in the season.

Kent Sakamoto, Brett Flowers, Brian Bistagne and Ray Serrano each connected with a man aboard while Ty Marotz just missed a complete game on the mound. The Explorers have hit the .500 plateau for the first time since July 14 (29-29).

Marotz, in his sixth season in an Explorers uniform, improved his record to 6-3, working 8 1/3 innings while spacing six hits, striking out four and walking four. The LS-3 righthander from Arizona State University is the franchise's career leader in games pitched, innings pitched and losses and second with 24 career victories.

théâtre à l'américain en français - Real Life 2010 - Lewis & Clark

The American theater in French

From Strasbourg is a university town (about 45,000 students, so the largest university in France), there is always plenty of cultural activities and events supported to a younger crowd intellectual. Strasbourg is home to TNS (Théâtre National de Strasbourg) is a large beautiful building, not far from my apartment, and a wide variety of professional plays each season. I had the opportunity to see Don Juam, which was very well done and intriguing, but very difficult for me to understand.

I recently had the opportunity to see a performance of "The Laramie Project" initiated by a student organization of the university. "The Laramie Project" is an American play by Moises Kauffman tells the story of the murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay student at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. I know the story well, since I had seen it done twice in English. I think it helped a lot.

So much culture in France! I love it.
