The cost to process the request is free, though copies of what they find will run you $.05 each (perhaps more if they have to be sent out). The turnaround process should take anywhere from 3 – 5 days, at which point it will head up to the building department where they pull the plans out.

What can you expect to find out? “We may find nothing,” explains Mittemaier. “Or we may find plans for the garage, the house or both.” Given that the house you think the barn went with was built in 1918, you just may get lucky!

You may also want to swing by the wonderful wealth of information that is the Main Branch of our library. “We have several places that might yield some pertinent information,” says Ellie Winslow , a part-time reference librarian and long-time Maplewood resident. “A long while ago — in the days of entirely paper listings — a number of realtors deposited a number of listing slips which we keep in the basement of the library, complete with picture and selling information on many homes.” Winslow says a quick stop to the reference desk will easily set you off on your search.
