Man killed, soldier wounded in south Georgia stabbings
MIDWAY, Ga. — Authorities say a 60-year old man was stabbed to death and a 3rd Infantry Division soldier was flown to a hospital with serious stab wounds.
Police say both men were found stabbed around 10 a.m. Thursday after officers were dispatched to the Cay Creek Wetlands Interpretive Center on Charlie Butler Road in Midway.
Liberty County Chief Deputy Keith Moran tells the Savannah Morning News that Benjamin O'Neal was taken by ambulance to Liberty Regional Memorial Hospital in Hinesville, where he died from his wounds.
Authorities say the soldier, who is based at Fort Stewart, was flown by helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center. The soldier's name was not released.
Moran said the sheriff's office, Midway police and the Army Criminal Investigations Division are working together to investigate what happened.
