Boots And Saddles - News
"They will fashion their own lesson plans and hopefully they will introduce their students to a different aspect of western history other than what I call 'Boots and Saddles' history. Certainly not unimportant, but there's certainly a lot more going on
Western is the (use of a) western saddle.” The clothing, the boots, saddles and the way they ride are all different, she said. Also, Sunday, the riding portion of the 4-H Royalty competition will begin following the western riding competitions.

Boots and Saddles: EN - July edition
The current members of the AERC access a publication truly wonderful - the New Endurance (FR). I look forward to monthly magazine - what a friend or someone I know to be on the cover? Do I see an article written by a fellow blogger? What will I learn in the column of the veterinarian this month? Each month there is a selection of articles and inspiring edition of July was no exception. In general, I am not in favor of adding more divisions to our sport. Our sport is small and when I was as happy as could be to get my jacket to be in my ranking of regional division, it adds cost, complexity and waters down all the achievements. Some of the weight classes do not make sense to me. For example, the weight. The rider's weight is a complex issue that involves both a horse build, if the rider goes down often, and the weight of the horse and rider combination. There is no clear correlation between the weight of the rider and completion rates ride, except perhaps at the upper end.But this is a debate on the desirability of another age division should be added - the problem of weight division, so I'll return to the subject. OK I have to have a junior division. Competition in the sport under the age of 16 has problems different from those competing in adulthood - including the need to have a sponsor. Thus, since the rules are different from those of adults, juniors must compete with each other. So why add one young rider division? Caudill claims that the members involved to keep up to age 22 (the proposed cut for the young rider division) there is an increased risk for subsequent participation. What evidence do we have for this?I never participated in sports as a junior or in fact, until I turned 21 and graduated from college. The main obstacle for me to participate in the sport before I was 22 was not one-to-head in the senior division - it was time. Money was a problem, and yes, it would be nice to have a discount for members continue to pay tuition bills, but there are people who are looking for qualified people to ride their horses multiple, so there is an opportunity to endurance "on the cheap" if money is an issue. All times prices and discounts in the world would not have given what I needed to compete in college - because they could not give me more time. I think the members of this "early age rider" already in competition if they are able, and if they are not, by establishing a separate division for them will not help. Instead, he will score, rewards point system even more complicated and costly than it already is.I like the idea of discount for those who are full-time students / young riders - but as the junior entry is updated at the discretion of race director and all those who are the other "reduced" category - included proposed new division. I do not see how establishing this new division will CREA and endurance. I'm really conflicted on this one. Part of me thinks it's stupid to continue to keep the distinction between endurance (the miles earned in rides 50 + miles) and LD. Should I not be credited for DL 150 miles or so that Farley? We have those where we were the first beginnings, and they have not been easy for us mph. While the completion rates are much higher LD 50, but 50 mile completion rates are even higher than 100, which are grouped in the category mile endurance. Miles in endurance, 50s, 75s, 100, and all kinds of pioneer miles are grouped in. all very different, all with varying levels of completion. Is it wise to continue to have a separate division for LD?So I think I like the idea of combining the total mileage, I'm a little less certain when it comes to combining the two categories for the picture - if so, I think the AERC to continue to offer a first prize of LD, very similar to the 100 national awards as a recognition to the people competing in LD and grateful they earn fewer points - as the price of 100 mile recognizes that the choice of competing in 100 means that, statistically, you will go less than rides and may or may not reflect your achievements in the standings (although with the change point last year, it's not a problem). It's an idea I can agree with! When people ask me why I endurance race, the first thing that comes out of my mouth is that I get to see the country and the paths that I would never ever get to see another way . And it's beautiful. And wonderful. Yes, it's fun to win or get into the top 10, but at least for me, that matters little. Each round, I drive to complete. It is a happy coincidence that I am in the standings, or finish in the top 10, but these things are not even enter my mind when I describe why I like riding and endurance. If having an option to complete only rides open more land and trails for us to ride on, I absolutely support it. I do not see our competition walks away - I like the feeling of competition - but that does not bother me at all on horseback for a chance at the end only. YR are generally still dependent on a main driver (or group of riders) to compete. YR Many in my area are enrolled in school, also work at least part time, and do not necessarily own their own horse. They may be "catching horse" or have a designated assembly belonging to someone else. Most YR in my area have not their own truck / trailer platform, and are therefore doubly dependent on someone else to compete. With these restrictions alone, most of YR are "out of money" when competing with adults. CREA noted for years that our population is aging membership. To recruit and retain members (and re-draw them later in life), I think it is important to recognize the achievements of young riders. Other equestrian disciplines are already - and they belong to the poster. We are not talking about a huge population ...but we are talking about a population that is (and is) important for the CREA in the future. Completion only walks: I want to see new rides to be designated as "completing only" for the first year, to give managers new ride a chance to learn the ropes CREA ... but I'm not sure that creating a category of "the end does" events is required. It is quite easy for a rider to screw something in the competition and be delivered "just end" points already, and most of us only ride for miles and not the end of the year awards. It seems to be made of a hoop to jump through hoops where no is necessary .... JMO, of course ...
