Muggles Flood Westchester Theatre for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Though the lobby of the City Center 15: Cinema De Lux looked like a casting call for extras to appear in the next Harry Potter movie—all of the costumed fans at the White Plains theater Thursday night sadly knew they were about to see the final Potter film.
”I’m really sad, its one of the things that makes me happy, and it’s sad that it’s about to be over,” said Christina Gerbosi, 14, from Valhalla.
Die-hard fans like Gerbosi, whose favorite characters are Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom, have anxiously waited since November — when the first part of the last film came out— to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 .
Many said they grew up with the Harry Potter series, and that this last film felt like an end to an important childhood experience.
“I grew up watching all of it,” said Kelsey Malone, 17, of Yorktown Heights. “It’s going to be sad, but it’s fitting. I’m finishing my childhood, and it’s ending (Harry Potter series).”
The Harry Potter saga—a seven-part book series written British author J. K. Rowling and turned into an eight-part film series by Warner Bros.—created an obsessed fan base, who are truly touched by the epic story of “the boy who lived,” and his plight to save the wizarding world from the evil Lord Voldemort.
Multitudes of people at the White Plains theater were dressed up, emulating their favorite characters—like Bellatrix Lestrange, Gryffindor Quidditch players, students from houses of Slytherin and Ravenclaw, and of course Harry Potter—to pay tribute to their beloved series.
“I’m dressed up because one, that’s how excited for the movie I am; and two because, it’s the last movie,” said Danielle Gerbosi, 18, of North White Plains, whose favorite character is Ron Weasley.
“Might as well go all out—go hard or go home.”
John Dowicyan, 53, from Somers, said Harry Potter brought him and his 18-year-old daughter closer together.
“I have read every book out loud to my daughter as they came out, and we’re both big fans,” said Dowicyan. “It’s probably been the most important literary event people read worldwide that’s probably ever occurred since the Bible. “
Though most had bittersweet feelings about Harry Potter’s last adventure, others like Alexis Sabol, 17, from White Plains, made their peace with seeing the end of his saga.
